Position Title: Community Engagement Coordinator

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent

Length of Contract: 240 Days (Grant-funded annually by Save The Children)

Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred

Salary: $35,000 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

Community Engagement Coordinator

Responsible for coordinating the efforts and activities of a countywide governance body referred to as a Community Collaborative (CC). Working closely with Save the Children’s Community Engagement Specialist, the Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) will lead and coordinate the CC’s efforts to improve educational outcomes for children in their community. 

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong community network, fundamental knowledge of and experience with community organizing and education.  The primary role is to mobilize the community and provide direct support to the CC to increase knowledge and skills, assess needs, drive improvements, and build awareness to improve educational outcomes for children. Through this work, the CEC will be required to establish partnerships in the community, build awareness of the issues facing children, and support advocacy efforts to advance Kindergarten Readiness and  3rd grade reading outcomes. 

 

Position Description::

  1. Ensure that the CC is comprised of volunteers who are committed to improving children’s educational outcomes. Members should include a mix of parents/caregivers, early childhood educators, and any sector of the community who works to improve educational outcomes for children. The most marginalized populations in the community must be included. 
  2. Lead the CC to conduct and share findings of school and community needs assessments. Collect all relevant information needed to create and submit a program plan to address identified needs. 
  3. Facilitate CC planning sessions and ensure that program plans directly align to needs as identified in the assessments. 
  4. Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive Community Action Plan to identify and plan community mobilization activities. 
  5. Assist the Community Engagement Specialist in determining the baseline capacity and growth of the CC in areas such as goal setting, partnership building, program implementation, fundraising, and advocacy. • Assist the Community Engagement Specialist in connecting CC members to appropriate training and technical assistance sessions. 
  6. Participate in Save the Children program trainings, partner learning sessions, and other development opportunities in order to provide high quality, innovative approaches for children in the community.

 

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. 
  • Demonstrated networking and relationship-building skills. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong planning and reporting skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new processes quickly and marshal resources to accomplish deliverables effectively and efficiently. 
  • Demonstrated organization and task completion skills; ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a timely and comprehensive manner. 
  • Experience as both a participant and facilitator with a community collaborative.
  • Proven track record of delivering outcomes in community initiatives. 
  • Strong cultural knowledge of the targeted communities and understanding of the critical challenges facing rural communities. 
  • Understanding of early learning and literacy practices for children birth through 3rd grade.
  • Experience in building consensus, mediating, and negotiating among diverse partners with different goals and agendas. 
  • Ability to effectively manage and facilitate community events and forums. • Ability to establish and facilitate complex cross-sector relationships (education, businesses, local governments, faith-based organizations, etc.). 
  • Experience with grassroots organizing or leadership development.
  • Ability to recruit and reach marginalized or disenfranchised members of the community.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs. 
  • Ability to use social media. 
  • Have the desire to work with communities and families in rural areas. 
  • Have the desire to lead community stakeholder meetings and coordinate activities.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of program monitoring
  • Ability to connect and share best practices with program partners
  • Implement activities and monito goal progressions
  • Develop and present for state summits or other similar events
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Lead in the creation of the Save the Children Communication Plan of to communicate information
  • Communicate with the community and different audiences and attend local government meetings, school board, or other public forums to ensure local decision-makers are familiar with the program
  • Oversee partnerships and fundraising
  • Support policy and advocacy for benefiting children and programs

 

Working Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and some fine finger dexterity. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
